Very rare Solid 18ct Gold IWC Calibre 60 with extract of the IWC archives 1951
This is an exemplary example of a solid 18ct gold gents classic slimline wristwatch made by the world renowned premier maker International Watch Company or IWC.
The IWC Calibre 60 movement is extremely rare, and is the fore runner to the famous calibre 89 and was made in very small numbers.
This IWC is a rare gent’s ‘cioccolatone’ rectangular cased model in solid 18K yellow gold . Dating to 1951 and having a champagne centre sweep seconds ‘doctor’s dial’ with stepped case and lugs. The two-piece case is Swiss hallmarked to the side and inner back for 18K Gold. The original dial has a subtle sunray finish, and carries applied solid gold faceted baton and dot markers. The solid gold dagger hour and minutes hands are complimented by a centre sweep seconds hand in similar precious metal. It is signed ‘INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO, SCHAFFHAUSEN’. The solid gold snap back case carries the serial number 1243435 externally.
The IWC calibre 60 movement is serviced to factory specifications and keeping accurate time. It is signed, carries the serial number 1150996, and is in mint condition.
The dimensions are 27mm square without the crown, 29mm including the crown, 32mm lug to lug, and 18mm between the lugs. It is fitted with the original gold winding crown and a new domed crystal. The watch is accompanied by a bound extract from the IWC archives identifying its provenance and date of initial sale – December 18th 1951 – Türler, Watches & Jewellery, Zürich
